The Long Beach Museum of Art is almost a once a week thing for me and lilybugs. We first discovered the place from seeing the MSTRWRKS billboard out in front. Walking in they had a cool exhibition going on “Masterworks: Defining a New Narrative” which consists of consists of 14 large-scale paintings featuring accomplished artists who, for the last decade or more, have been consistently exploring new narrative directions in painting. Each of the artists have been charged with providing a singular work that could be considered pivotal in their careers, to which they have dedicated considerable thought, time, and skill. Artists featured will include Esao Andrews, Sean Cheetham, Natalia Fabia, Alex Gross, James Jean, Josh Keyes, Mario Martinez, Greg Simkins, Nicola Verlato, Eric White, Aron Wiesenfeld, Martin Wittfooth, and Curating Artist and Author Nathan Spoor and Co-curator Jeff McMillan.

After going through the exhibit we usually explore downtstairs which as a few activities for kids, character drawing, story telling and a puzzle they also have live artist residents who at the time was a 3d scupltor with working with a 3d printer. From there we move upstairs and look at the magazines and books then go through the “Small Treasures” exhibit which are rarely seen objects in ceramic, glass, metal and wood in the Kitty Rosenbaum Gallery. There are two necklaces and small sculptures by Claire Falkenstein, and a necklace by Frank E. Cummings among the small pieces.

The Long Beach Museum of Art is a community-based organization that collects and cares for a permanent art collection, presents changing exhibitions in a variety of media, and provides engaging educational programming for youth and adults. The Museum welcomes more than 100,000 visitors each year, including more than 12,000 students, educators, and family visitors who participate in free educational programs.

The Long Beach Museum of Art is located on a magnificent bluff-top site overlooking Long Beach Harbor and the Pacific Ocean. The campus includes the historic Elizabeth Milbank Anderson house and carriage house, now called the Miller Education Center (built in 1912), oceanfront gardens, and a new pavilion with two floors of expansive gallery space for changing exhibitions with the Museum Store in the Masterson Atrium. The historic buildings are home to administrative offices, the Boeing Classroom and Café. In addition to changing exhibitions, the Museum offers extensive educational programs for children and adults, musical programs, festivals, and other special events.
