We do too! First of all our deepest sympathies for anyone at any stage of their wedding plans and we are here for you. If you are on either end of the Wedding spectrum and have the COVID-19 wedding blues please keep reading as we offer some suggestions to navigate these tough and trying times.  If you ever need to talk please know we are both here for you please reach out on any of our platforms, we got you boo!

For our Mid March to the end of May couples that have had to postpone their special Day, phew that’s a tough one and we feel for you and really hope you were able to postpone and not have to cancel. If your vendors and venue are able to postpone and reschedule you without any extra fees please go that route, you will be happy in the long run if you allow yourselves to still have that special day with your loved ones. If your hitting any walls with vendors or venues please reach out to us at info@djwrex.com and we can offer suggestions and referrals.  First of all please allow yourselves to feel all the emotions and thoughts that you are feeling, you are very much valid in that and need to release it and process it in a healthy way. Talk it out, write it down, and reach out to some of your support group as well.  Do not make any haste decisions or emotional fueled ones, take some time to look at a few options for each scenario before deciding.

For our June to September Weddings, hold tight and have faith we can all follow the CDC regulations and work together to stay home and clear this Virus. Try not to focus on postponing or cancelling yet, it is too far away for that we really do not know what will happen for at least a week or two so focus on what provisions you can take now instead of what may happen then.  If you have family members traveling that have not purchased their tickets yet and may be considering not coming, be empathetic to them and hope they will choose to still come. If there are people that will not or cannot attend due to COVID-19 Wedding blues you can have a friend or family member Facetime or Skype them in for the Ceremony. For now, take stock of what you have paid for and what you have not and what of those are necessities.  You may have to have to adjust that late night snack amount or extra treats or non essential items like that giant connect four you wanted. This is ok, it sucks and hurts but is not more important than still being able to have a special Wedding.

For our couples that just got engaged and are looking at starting to plan, please still get excited about it and build up those Pinterest boards you deserve, have fun with it!  Definitely still look into vendor bookings, you may be surprised at what deals you can pick up during these times. We personally are offering 20% off services till April 19, 2020, please email: info@djwrex.com for more info. And for our 2021 Brides you will be fine and still have your special day be awesome with no more COVID-19 Wedding Blues so go back to getting excited and keep enjoying being engaged.  We love you all and appreciate all of your support on both ends, stay strong and keep lifting each other up!

Charles & Val Drueco – Millwick – Los Angeles – Venue Coordinator vs. Wedding Coordinator

Your Wedding Day is going to be packed full and you will definitely want a team of people helping you through it.  Two very important people are the venue coordinator and the wedding coordinator, know the difference and who to delegate what tasks to and your day will run smoothly.  When you book a venue the majority of them come with a venue coordinator that is a staff member of the venue and dedicated to making sure the items that belong to the venue or are serviced by the venue are done correctly. Here’s the difference between the Venue Coordinator vs. Wedding Coordinator or Planner.

Having a wedding coordinator is a personal choice and highly recommended.  Your options for this are to hire a coordinator from the beginning and have them involved the whole way through to really do all the hard work for you of researching to find all the right fits for you.  A strong suggestion is to at minimum hire a day of coordinator someone to organize all of your vendors, bridal party, and guests throughout the day as well as put out any fires before you see them.  Here is a breakdown comparison of the two for you to have a better understanding.

Charles & Val Drueco – Millwick – Los Angeles

1. Venue:

Venue Coordinator- They are responsible for everything that specifically deals with the venue. Tables, chairs, linens, food, etc. If they provide catering, their focus is to make sure that the kitchen and wait staff are scheduled according to your needs.

Wedding Coordinator – They are responsible for working with the venue coordinator on all items included in the contract.  They are also responsible for coordinating and communicating with all of your outside vendors about where and when they should set up. They are also responsible for any items you bring in to the venue.

2. Vendors:

Venue Coordinator- The venue coordinator can provide a list of preferred vendors and that’s the extent of their involvement when it comes to interacting with the vendors.

Wedding Coordinator – Your wedding planner will schedule and attend your meetings with your vendors. They are the main point of contact between you and your vendors. If a vendor is lost or running late or is having an emergency, they’ll contact your wedding planner who will then put out the fire.

Charles & Val Drueco – Millwick – Los Angeles

3. Timeline:

Venue Coordinator- They will have a timeline which will center around when the food will be prepared and served, grand entrance, toasts and cake cutting.

Wedding Coordinator – The wedding planner’s timeline details all aspects of the day from the time that the bride wakes up to the moment that the doors close. They schedule arrival times for all vendors, when the photos will be taken, what songs will be played for each dance, garter and bouquet toss, etc.

Charles & Val Drueco – Millwick – Los Angeles

4. Décor:

Venue Coordinator – Due to liability purposes they typically don’t set up any decor items. They only handle items which must go down prior to the chinaware and silverware (chargers, specialty linen, table runners, etc.).

Wedding Coordinator – They assist in the set-up and execution of your vision with your decor. They also pack up your decor items and gifts at the end of the night and place them in your vehicle or hotel room.

Plan ahead and know who has which responsibilities in keeping your day stress free! Thanks for checking out the post Venue Coordinator vs. Wedding Coordinator. Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.

Woohooo you just got engaged, how exciting!!! Now it’s time to get to work planning the wedding. Here are helpful tips to pick your wedding venue. This can be very overwhelming, although picking your venue can really be a major key to pull everything together and get you on track.

Start off by brainstorming with your fiancé about what kind of venue, what season, the budget, and the guest count you would like so you will be able to get a detailed search list. Here is step 1 on to How to Pick Your Wedding Venue.

oscar and dassi photography lake oak meadows temecula dj wrex best dj in los angeles how to pick your wedding venue
Sarah + Ray at Lake Oak Meadows in Temecula, Ca Photo by Oscar and Dassi

Step 1: Season and dates!

The season you choose can have many factors dictating it, like what state you live in, whether you want indoor or outdoor, is family coming from out of town, or is your dream venue only available during a certain time of year. If you live in California you can pretty much get married anywhere anytime of the year, we generally only have rain during a couple months out of the year. Rain can force you indoors, so if you want an outdoor venue make sure it has provisions for tenting or an indoor room to accommodate your guest count. Be mindful of the super-hot months when planning for an outdoor ceremony and/or reception. You do not want your guests uncomfortable so make sure there is shade; possibly umbrellas and that there is an indoor area with air conditioning for kids and seniors if they need to escape the heat. It would be best if you to pick a few dates so you have some flexibility if a venue you really like isn’t available for your first choice. Some venues book up quickly, a year or more in advance especially during the summer months. Saturday is the ideal day as guests usually do not need to take off work but it’s more expensive depending on the venue. Sunday-Thurs can be cheaper although guests need to take off work and on Sunday guests may leave early because they have work the next day. Also you want to select a date where you have enough time to plan, save money, allow guests time to save the date and book your vendors. For less stress about a year in advance is ideal unless you are in a hurry to plan everything.

Sarah + Ray at Lake Oak Meadows in Temecula, Ca Photo by Oscar and Dassi

Step 2. Create Your Guestlist

Create a guest list this way you will know how many people the venue will need to accommodate; this will play a big part. Have yourself and your fiancé each make their own list and then go through them together. Leave a few open spaces about 10 for any additions that may come from your parents or other sponsors. Also take in to account if there are any guests that will need wheelchair access as well so that you pick a venue everyone can easily maneuver through.

oscar and dassi photography lake oak meadows temecula dj wrex best dj in los angeles how to pick your wedding venue
Sarah + Ray at Lake Oak Meadows in Temecula, Ca Photo by Oscar and Dassi

Step 3. The Budget

The scary part….the budget! This is very crucial to discuss early on to make sure you are both on the same page and are able to book a venue you both are super excited for. Make sure to figure in any gifts from parents or sponsors and what you have saved and/or are projected to save for the wedding. What portion of this are you wanting to put towards the actual venue. Along with this you will need to consider if the venue is all inclusive or not. All-inclusive typically means the venue provides tables, chairs, linens, dinnerware, etc. Some venues will not allow you to pick your own vendors, so make sure to ask and that you like their in-house options. Some will allow you to bring in your own if they can provide a business license and insurance for an extra fee.

oscar and dassi photography lake oak meadows temecula dj wrex best dj in los angeles how to pick your wedding venue
Sarah + Ray at Lake Oak Meadows in Temecula, Ca Photo by Oscar and Dassi

Step 4: Picking The Venue

Here’s the fun one, picking a venue. An important step in this process is to figure geographically how far you and your family/friends will have to travel for the event. Probably one of the most exciting but difficult is a destination wedding, this will most likely get you a smaller guest count but will require a lot of planning for lodging and travel. Do your online research, you can find out a lot by using sites like: www.herecomestheguide.com and www.wedding-spot.com. You can quickly find out what they include, pricing, and capacity using these types of sites. Don’t be afraid to send off for quotes and email venues, the more information you get the better. It really helps in narrowing down your choices. Make a list of venues that you love. Next you will want to schedule walk through’s, so many times it looks perfect online and then you get there and oh no it is not what you wanted, or something looks a little rough around the edges online and then you get there and it’s stunning. Some detailed tips to check for are: bathrooms, are there enough, are they easily accessed, and clean. Sound ordinance, is there a cut off time or a time that the music needs to be lowered, and are there enough power sources to accommodate your event. Does the venue allow alcohol, some places only allow beer and wine so if you want hard alcohol make sure to clarify their rules. Security can sometimes be required too when booking Community and Civic Centers, this can be based on guest count and if alcohol is present or not.

Different venues have different capacities and you wouldn’t want your venue to small or too big for the amount of guests you are having. You would also want space to put the dancefloor, bar, dj, photobooth, dessert table, cake table, etc all in the same room or area if possible. If the bar is one area, the photobooth is another area, and the cake is in another area because there is not enough space your guests would be spread thin and makes it hard for the dj to keep the dancefloor poppin..

Lastly, lighting, are you able to control and turn off the house lights at night for dancing as well as is there enough light for your other vendors. Check out a handful of venues before deciding.

Congratulations you have just paved the way for a fun filled journey with your love, have fun and ask lots of questions. Thanks for reading “How to Pick Your Wedding Venue. Check below for more help with playlists and more articles like “How to pick your wedding venue”

Setup at Millwick is a breeze as the speakers are already setup for you and the turntables are already there. Aileen is originally from the Bay and Jon is born and raised in Los Angeles. They met at work in the banking industry. There was so much love at this wedding. Definitely felt it so much djing for their friends and family. The father of the bride also left everyone in tears from his speech. Aileen did a surprise hula performance. I was able able to put together a dope LA to the Bay mix for their grand entrance below feat. E-40, Snoop Dop, P-Lo, Murs and more. Super dope vibes! Lets do it again! How to be Great Wedding Guests

How to be Great Wedding Guests. Here’s some tips on how to be great wedding guests from the eyes and ears of DJ Wrex and Mitchell De Guzman with support from coordinators and photographers. The bride and groom, the coordinator, the dj and mc can nly do so much. You have the power to make it a great night!

Photos by Lex and the Lotus from Stephen and Kristine’s super lit wedding.

    1. RSVP On Time/ASAP

The bride and groom need an accurate guest count to tell their venue/catering, plan their table layout, order chairs etc. It’s important to let them know if you are coming or not so you will be accommodated.

    2. Never add your own Plus-One

Don’t bring your plus one if it isn’t specifically stated on your invitation. You can ask if you can bring one if it’s before the RSVP deadline.

    3. Leave your problems at home.

Positive vibes only for the wedding. Let loose and have a good time. Celebrate with the couple!

    4. Dress well, look the part.

Generally a wedding is a formal occasion and so should be the dress code, if unsure you can always check with the bride or groom to ensure you dress appropriately. No jeans and t-shirt. Guys make sure to wear a coat, dress shoes, dress pants etc. Ladies if it’s an outdoor event don’t wear stilettos; you’ll sink into the grass.

    5. Bring dancing shoes/flip flops

A lot of the time those feet are killing you by the time the dance floor gets going. Bring extra shoes or flip flops in your bag or in the car so you can hit the dance floor without missing a beat. The alternative is dancing barefoot which is not very appropriate you could get hurt and let’s face it; it’s not the best look with your formal dress.

    6. Party!

Be ready to party! It’s a celebration! Toast with the bride and groom!

    7. Dance!

Feel the music and ask the dj to play your favorite songs, if you do make a request, you better dance.

    8. Take photos at the photobooth!

Use it to your advantage. It’s usually unlimited sessions and they have lots of cool props. You can even download them from Facebook after. Just because photobooth is free for you the couple paid money for it to be there so make sure they get their money’s worth! Also please return the props! Photo from Lovehut Photobooth

    9. Introduce yourselves

Right at the beginning introduce yourselves to the other guests at the table. Don’t make it awkward. Pass the butter, ranch and water plz. Have a toast together.

    10. Get off your phone

Please use your phone to take photos, snapchat etc. but be in the moment, keep it on silent, listen to the vows, toasts and get hyped up for the grand entrance.

    11. Don’t work tomorrow

If you can take the day off do it, trust! You will be able to party it up and have a blast without the drag of work the next day looming in your head. The recovery time is REAL if you are drinking. You can also take half of the day off or work from home if possible.

    12. Stay till the end

If you are able to party till the wheels fall off the bride and groom will appreciate the excitement and commitment to their special day. Do it right and stick around for the last song to send them off the right way.

    13. Don’t block the photographer and videographers

Don’t be that guy or gal with the big ipad in the shot especially during the ceremony.

    14. Take pictures and video using the couples Hashtag

If the bride and groom have a hashtag make sure to use it so they can see your photos and relive the moments.

    15. Drink Responsibly

Drink but don’t drink too much, especially if you know you will be out of hand and would be disturbing the other guests. Know your limit and have fun. If you do plan to drink up refer to the next tip

    16. Plan on taking a rideshare service

If you do plan to drink and party make sure to have a designated driver or coordinate an uber/lyft if you aren’t staying at the hotel or in walking distance. Please be safe.

    17. Stay at a hotel nearby

If you can afford it why not make the night or weekend a staycation? Get an affordable room at the venue (if it’s a hotel) or down the street.

    18. Get a babysitter

If you are new parents, get a trusted babysitter for the night. You guys deserve a night off to party!

    19. Congratulate and Thank the bride and groom

Last but not the least don’t for get to congratulate the bride and groom and thank them for inviting you. Cheers!
